The Basilica di Santa Maria della Grazie is where Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper is in the refectory next door, and one of Milan’s most beautiful and very special churches. It was commissioned by Duke of Milan Francesco Sforza, and made into the Sforza family burial site by Ludovico Sforza, who married Beatrice d’Este. Beatrice, sister of Isabella d’Este was only 15 when she married Ludovico, yet she embraced the cultural and artistic life of the court and along with sister Isabella, became a European fashion icon whose style was copied in the European courts, although it was that Beatrice had the most beautiful and expensive dresses. Ludovico buried her here when she died in childbirth six years into their marriage at the age of 21.
